DMSO Could Help Millions With Brain and Spinal Injury, Arthritis (2024)

From reading A Midwestern Doctor: The Forgotten Side of Medicine, I’ve come to learn that Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) has solved three of the most common problems in medicine:

• It quickly heals a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries (those routinely experienced by professional athletes or a chronic back injury leading to partial disability).

• It effectively treats a variety of joint disorders (such as rheumatoid arthritis).

• It’s an extremely effective and very safe painkiller.

Because of DMSO, individuals disabled by severe chronic pain regain their quality of life at a conservative 80% to 85% success rate. This is miraculous particularly since all other pain-killing medications have significant (and frequently lethal) side effects and worse still—often don’t even work.

DMSO is a simple and readily available naturally-occurring compound that rapidly enters the body through the skin (as you will see in the video below).

And there is a strong case that DMSO is also an incredible therapy for:

Circulatory disorders like Reynaud’s and varicose veins

• Provides a variety of anti-clotting activities which are similar to (but eclipses) the effects of baby aspirin

A wide range of neurological disorders, including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, and spinal cord injuries leading to paralysis or dementia

Complex protein disorders (e.g., amyloidosis)

Down Syndrome

• Traumatic brain injuries and brain bleeds

In the following 1980 episode of 60 Minutes, Dr. Stanley Jacob told Mike Wallace that NO ONE has died from DMSO. At timestamp 5:45, then head of the FDA, Dr. J. Richard Crout, also agreed that DMSO has no serious adverse effects.

Dr. Jacob, the Harvard-educated Chief of the Transplant Surgery Team at the University of Oregon Medical School was diligent in helping individuals disabled by severe chronic pain regain their quality of life. Nonetheless, Crout and his FDA saw fit to stop 1,000 active studies on DMSO in 1965 by instituting a research ban on the compoundbasically because the FDA and Pharma don’t like anything they can’t gain power from or profit from!

DMSO, Nature’s Healer

Discovered byAlexander Zaytsev in 1866,DMSO, or dimethyl sulfoxide, is a compound that is found in tree sap. In trees, DMSO functions as a solvent, facilitating the transport of nutrients and other compounds throughout the plant. It helps in the movement of substances through the xylem and phloem, which are the main conduits for fluid transport within a tree. This ability to cross membranes easily makes it valuable for trees, as well as for animals and humans. (Other tree sap products are maple syrup, birch syrup, latex, rubber, pine resin, and amber.) The Midwestern Doctor writes, “If I were stranded on a desert island or knew the world was ending and I could only bring a few therapies with me, one of them, without a doubt, would be DMSO. This is because:

• It treats a wide range of severe illnesses which are often otherwise incurable and frequently fatal or lead to a lifetime of permanent disability.

• It effectively treats acute injuries and rehabilitates chronic musculoskeletal disorders (e.g., arthritis). Because of this, it’s one of the best “pain medicines” out there and has allowed many to get their lives back.

• It has a variety of unique properties that open up a completely different dimension to how medicine can be practiced.

It is one of the safest medically active substances in existence.

A Little Fascinating History

As it was far safer and more effective than any other way to treat musculoskeletal injuries, joint disorders or chronic pain, DMSO was rapidly adopted by doctors and pharmaceutical companies across the country (millions were invested to bring DMSO products to market and hundreds of thousands of Americans had life-changing benefits from it. People everywhere were clamoring for it, gas stations would often advertise they sold it, and tens of thousands of research studies were conducted by enthusiastic scientists around the globe).Unfortunately, as DMSO’s use was skyrocketing, on November 10, 1965, the FDA decided to globally ban all research on it by falsely claiming it was “incredibly dangerous”. Because of this, there was a sudden disappearance of DMSO research, even while Congress repeatedly tried to get the FDA to overturn their indefensible prohibition of DMSO.

This was arguably the worst thing the FDA has ever done to the country.

As a result, very little knowledge now exists of DMSO’s use in human musculoskeletal injuries other than it existing in a few FDA approved products (where it typically is combined with another agent). Remarkably however, it is fully permitted in veterinary medicine (which led to a lot of Americans using DMSO that was “meant for horses”) where it is frequently utilized for musculoskeletal injuries.

Some (there are lots more) forgotten studies include:

A 1964 study, where 22 out of 25 patients with subacromial bursitis experienced a rapid improvement within 30 minutes of DMSO. In chronic cases, 32 of 40 patients improved. In this study, patients saw a reduction in shoulder calcium deposits which disappeared on X-ray following DMSO.

This 1965 study:

In 1967, there were numerous studies. The largest of which found:

Some of those disorders included:

and Table 4:

Note: that study also included x-ray images of painful calcifications disappearing from DMSO. However, while DMSO has often been observed to eliminate calcifications, other therapies (e.g., neural therapy) are sometimes also required to accomplish this.

Many of the results were immediate and dramatic. One example was this bursitis patient:

DMSO Could Help Millions With Brain and Spinal Injury, Arthritis (7)

A different 1967 study found:

DMSO Could Help Millions With Brain and Spinal Injury, Arthritis (8)

Note: a key point these researchers emphasized was 25.6% of their patients, particularly the chronic ones, had a delayed response to DMSO (which is important to recognize as in chronic conditions DMSO can initially appear to not be doing anything). These researchers hypothesized this may have been due to them giving DMSO 1-2 times a week rather than 1-2 times a day.

Yet another 1967 study found (look at the % that ‘responded favorably’):

FDA Misconduct

The FDA has always cited 2 reasons to justify its indefensible conduct against DMSO:

1. They argued there was no evidence DMSO worked, which was an absurd claim as data from thousands upon thousands of patients showed DMSO worked dramatically better than the existing therapeutic options.

2. They claimed DMSO was an incredibly dangerous drug and that it was critically important to protect the public from it—something The Midwestern Doctor argued was a patent lie.

So the real question is, how safe is DMSO? The data is relevant for anyone considering using it.

The Safety of DMSO

No drug is completely safe. However, The Midwestern Doctor considers DMSO to be one of the safest drugs he knows of for a few key reasons:

1. It was subject to intensive scrutiny and a wide range of toxicology studies (as the FDA was desperate to find a reason to justify their prohibition on it). Nonetheless, nothing was found.

2. Rather than be toxic to cells, cells can tolerate very high concentrations of DMSO and in many cases, DMSO can protect cells from dying or rescue ones that were in the process of dying (like in frostbite and stroke). All of this is extraordinarily unusual.

3. A large number of animal studies (in at least 11 different species—including fish) have shown a lack of toxicity for DMSO.

4. Clinical trials consistently show a lack of toxicity from DMSO.

5. DMSO does not accumulate in the body, so it has no cumulative toxicity.

6. Millions of people have used DMSO, many of whom have used it for years if not decades (e.g., taking it daily for over 50 years). Still, despite this (outside of a few easily preventable mishaps which will be discussed in the book below), no serious issues have emerged.

7. DMSO’s pain-killing effect lasted far longer (4-6 hours and in some cases over 24 hours—whereas in contrast morphine typically lasted less than 2 hours). Plus DMSO is clearly non-addictive.

How Do We Use It?

DMSO has an almost endless amount of uses since it can be applied in almost any manner (it is frequently applied through the skinalthough less is absorbed in this manner than the other routes (oral and intravenous). Almost any appropriate substance can be combined with it and administered through the skin (e.g., topical magnesium oil, vitamin C, castor oil, colloidal silver, botanicals, essential oils, CBD, MSM, or chlorine dioxide). In many cases, the effects are enhanced.

Amandha Vollmer’s #1 Best Seller Healing with DMSO covers those combinations and other DMSO recipes. It filled with the benefits for your first-aid kit, from safely soothing headaches to easing arthritis pain. It’s an easy-to-use, fun, and fact-filled handbook, and if you are serious to use DMSO, I recommend it so you start out correctly. Rather than try to write out all the different ways to use it, she does a much better job and you will have a hard copy should we ever not have internet.

The book also contains a simple chart for mixing different DMSO concentrations and where they can be used on or in the body. The book (with fairly large print) really is a must have if you want to become comfortable and proficient with its use. For topical dilution to the customary 70%, I would use 7 parts of this Non-diluted 99.995% Low Odor Pharma Grade Liquid DMSO and mix with 3 parts distilled water or preservative-free aloe vera juice. You can do a skin patch test with a 20% concentration. You could apply it (wipe it on) with a 100% organic cotton round.

It covers how to use DMSO for:

• Cavities

• Burns

• Frozen shoulder

• Back pain

• Bursitis

• Tendonitis

• Cold sores and persistent shingles

• Hemorrhoids

• Muscle repair

• Restless leg syndrome

• Hair growth

• First aid and injuries

• Headaches and migraines

• Eye problems and so much more

I also ordered 2 other DMSO products to compare on my husband’s very painful old sport’s hip and shoulder injuries. First, I’ve been using topical Herbal Mana Alpha Warrior 99.9% Pure DMSO with 10 other pain reducing ingredients. He applies it after he showers at night and when he gets up in the morning. He HAS noticed a lessening of his pain using 2x/d, but it takes time to apply since he has to wait to dress until after the gel has absorbed for at least 15 minutes to prevent taking into his body anything from his clothing.

And we just received an inexpensive China-free ultra-filtered ODOR-FREE product for oral use (please read the 134 4.9-star reviews).

We will give each of these a fair test separately. I plan to start this for my also very painful degenerating vertebrae.

Here is the under 2 minute video for how simple this is to use and written ‘Steps to Take DMSO Orally“.

I pray our newly-elected leaders will have the will to clean out the FDA. Due to a very unusual confluence of events and many brave people stepping forward to do it, that once in a lifetime opportunity exist.
