Where is the best place to farm comet tails in wizard101? ›

Those are comet tails lying on the ground in those places (the Shadow Palace is the best place for them because of the small area, by the way). Astral shards are usually dropped by enemies.

Intense heat vaporizes the frozen gases and releases the dust within, which streams behind the comet, forming two distinct tails: an ion tail carried by the solar wind — the constant flow of charged particles from the Sun — and a dust tail.

Comets actually have two tails – a dust tail and an ion (gas) tail. Most comets travel a safe distance from the Sun. For example, Halley's comet gets no closer than 55 million miles (89 million kilometers). However, some comets, called sungrazers, fly into the Sun or get so close that they break up and evaporate.

When far from the sun, a comet is like a stone rolling around the universe. But when it approaches the sun, the heat evaporates the comet's gases, causing it to emit dust and microparticles (electrons and ions). These materials form a tail whose flow is affected by the sun's radiation pressure.

Comet tails will always point away from the sun because of the radiation pressure of sunlight. The force from sunlight on the small dust particles pushing them away from the sun is greater than the force of gravity acting in the direction toward the sun.

The Sun's heat vaporizes some of the comet's material, releasing dust particles that were trapped in the ice. A combination of solar radiation pressure and solar wind blow away gas and dust from the comet's nucleus, forming two separate tails: the ion tail and the dust tail.

The dust in the coma reflects sunlight, and gas in the coma absorbs ultraviolet radiation and begins to glow. The comet starts to look like a big "fuzzy ball". This coma material is then blown away from the coma by the solar wind and becomes the comet's tail. Comet tails can stream out up to 100 million km in length!

Structure of a comet

The first, and the only part that is constantly visible, is the comet nucleus. This is the central part of the comet and the only part that is solid. It consists of varying proportions of rock, dust, ice and gas that give comets their “dirty snowball” reputation.

So in 3-D space a comet's tail usually points away from the Sun, whether the comet is inbound or heading out. This is why a comet low in the western evening sky at dusk (or low in the east before dawn) shows a tail extending generally upward, away from the Sun's location below your horizon.

A rough estimate is that short-period comets (those with orbital periods of less than 200 years) last 50,000–500,000 years before losing all its volatiles and becoming inert. The skull-shaped “death comet” that went through the inner solar system in 2018 was an inert comet.

Although our Earth's tail has been explored by numerous spacecraft over the past few decades, many mysteries remain. This is mainly because the magnetotail is so large - it stretches at least two million kilometres into space on the night side of the Earth.

Comet tails point away from the Sun, regardless of the direction in which the comet is traveling. Comets have two tails because escaping gas and dust are influenced by the Sun in slightly different ways, and the tails point in slightly different directions.

Blown solar downwind, two separate tails are formed: one composed of dust and the other of gases. They become visible through different phenomena: the dust reflects sunlight directly, and the gases glow from ionization.

Fighting mobs for reagents is really slow, the best places to farm ore are the basilica and atheneum in dragonspyre but that place is pretty popular. A much less popular place is in mirkholm keep by the spirit runner wolves or whatever they're called.
